Artist Tina Dobrajc presents her latest painting and multimedia works in a solo exhibition Big Girls Don't Cry in the former monastery church. She touches upon the current political reality, national mythology, and gender issues. In combined techniques, her canvases depict imaginary spaces and scenes that serve as metaphors for everyday phenomena in the world that surrounds her and has had an important impact on her.

The presented works are typical allegories of the current moment and can be interpreted both specifically and universally, as they relate to the local as well as the global socio-political situation. On the one hand, the artist explores the issues of national and cultural identity, which is becoming an increasingly hot topic in the public discourses of the countries of the old continent, while on the other hand, she focuses on the role of women in these societies, which are divided between the desire to preserve tradition and the inevitability of progress. The idea of preserving the existing (welfare) state entails many consequences, which are often in conflict with the selected rights of various social groups. Tina Dobrajc’s works are therefore often based on selected fragments of everyday life, but in their distortion, absurdity, and irony, they become dark witnesses of some of the most crucial social phenomena of the given moment.
