Tina Dobrajc - Silence Is The Color Pink

233 cm x 187 cm

2021

Tina Dobrajc (1984) is an artist who devotes her painting practice to the issue of environmental protection and questions of geopolitics, burning issue of identities and social labelling in relation to the position of women in modern society. The bases of her works are imaginary forest scenes, which in their mystery allude to the images of the Alpine foothills and the Škofja Loka region. Instantaneously recognisable are the author’s female protagonists, who are in the foreground in her older works, while in the context of the newer production, these are slightly reduced and placed into the background for the sake of anonymity, adorned by different masks. By depicting local iconography as well as national and folklore symbols, Dobrajc refers to folk mythology, cultural identity, and issues of social gender, thereby commenting on the contemporary socio-political situation in an extremely critical, dark, yet dreamlike manner. Most of her paintings are created with acrylic on canvas, and her impressive oeuvre also includes performance, video, the use of textiles, theatre set design and literary illustrations.
