Tina Dobrajc brings new perspectives and approaches to Slovene painting. In her works, we can recognise symbols of popular culture mixed with traditional ethnological attributes. Just as her painting technique is a combination of central perspective with flatness of abstraction, she also combines popular culture icons with the proverbial Slovenian ones on the content level.

Her work is part of the long tradition of Gorenje and wider Slovene painting via the Šubic brothers, Ivan Grohar and Marko Jakšet. The images are metaphors of the inner monologues of ‘homo sapiens slovenicus’ – they are mental landscapes of the inner world of a generalised and generic type of Slovene being, haunted by anxiety and desires that have been repressed for too long.
