Sašo Vrabič (1974) tells the tale of modern man by depicting figural scenes and portraits based on photorealistic foundations. Classical painting has an important and irreplaceable place in his creative perception, but the artist also explores new ways of expressing it. By constantly intertwining extremely naturalistic images, texts, collages, graffiti and abstract brushstrokes, Vrabič creates his own unique expression, packed with humour and playfulness. He then rounds up this expression with distinctly abstract gestures. In his most expressive works, he comments on the nature of the modern information society and explores the realm of interpersonal communication. He often opts to depict everyday scenes, with which he addresses the pitfalls of the modern era and its high-tech tools, human behaviour, intimacy, and consumerism. He draws inspiration from fleeting encounters and images, followed by depictions of banal moments and stories from the human environment, as well as borrowed popular images from mainstream media. In his works, the everyday ambience is captured in a web of varied compositions and transformed with the aid of strong light contrasts, adding a surreal atmosphere to the portrayed scenes. The consumer society, oriented towards individualism, materialistic ideals and perfection, is addressed by the emphasised, almost cinematic aestheticization of these scenes. He also deals with other forms of visual and sound art.
